Château Léoville Poyferré is a renowned estate located in the Saint Julien appellation of Bordeaux. It was classified as a Second Growth, or Deuxieme Grand Cru Classé in the 1855 classification of the Medoc. Léoville Poyferré is one of three properties that were once combined in the large Léoville estate. Always a hub of innovation, Léoville was the first estate in the Medoc to switch to using varieties with smaller grapes to yield more concentrated wine. This tradition continued at Léoville Poyferré with the arrival of consultants including the legendary Emile Peynaud and later, Michel Rolland. The vineyards are planted to a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Petit Verdot which are carefully tended to produce wines of exceptional quality, including up to 18 months in a high proportion of new oak. The wine displays notes of ripe dark fruit, spices, tobacco, and cedar wood, with a long, elegant finish. It is a classic expression of the Saint-Julien terroir and will continue to improve with age.
